Ottawa Vet President Al Rivard accompanied by Roy Berlinquette made a presentation to the RCMP Senior Executive Committee in September 2008. An excellent overview of the progress made to date with our project.
Roy Berlinquette followed up with a business case requesting the RCMP seriously consider a funding strategy over three years to complete the Cemetery Project. This would include the entire infrastructure (pathways) and designated areas for feature sites; to include a memorial monument of past RCMP Commissioners at the centre mark of the Commissioner's Pathway. The Pathway is situated east to west from present memorial monument and a site designated to honour members killed in the line of duty.
The Heritage Educational Feature site is to the west and will be in the final stage of our seven stage plan. (Three stages having been completed to date). The SEC meeting went well with full support from all members followed by direction from the Commissioner to the Finance Officer to assist in the negotiations to develop a funding strategy for the next phase that will include border pathways and the Commissioner's Pathway. We are waiting for the confirmation from the RCMP to get this project completed before the first snowfall.
