True and Fascinating Canadian History

Chief of Ottawa Police Service,

Mr. Vern White

Ottawa, ON

Keeping Ottawa Homes Safe

A few years ago, I happened to look out our living room window to see a night bandit attempting to break and enter our neighbour's home through the rear door. He was forcefully high-kicking the door in an attempt to break in. I took him by surprise when I opened our patio door and shouted at him. He bolted away faster than an Olympian speed runner.

After a high speed foot chase down the street, I was able to catch the suspect and turn him over to the Ottawa Police Service.

A few weeks after the incident, my wife Cathy and I received a call from Chief of Police, Mr. Vern White. Mr. White invited us to a luncheon at which time he presented me with his Community Award of Merit.

In the photo (L to R) are Mr. Hank Jensen, Chair of the Ottawa Police Services Board, our neighbour, Chief Vern White and J. J. Healy

The suspect pled guilty to countless B & E's. He was sentenced to two years in Ottawa's local jail.

Gracie and I now consider the case closed.
