A Vet from a Golden Bygone Era

There are definite advantages to joining the Ottawa RCMP Vets Association. One highlight is to be in the company of 'ole friends such as long retired Staff Sergeant Major James Raymond 'Ray' McFarland. He was born over one hundred years ago, and one could say that he served Canada during a golden era long ago.

Ray was born in Saint John, NB in 1913 and he joined the Force in 1934. He served in various RCMP Divisions including; 'A', 'G and 'HQ' before he retired in 1961.

From 1961 to 1970, Ray worked as the Personnel Manager for Dufferin Construction Ltd. in Toronto, ON. In 1970, he was appointed the Director of Labour Relations for the TorontoConstruction Association. Ray retired again in 1974.

Down through the years, Ray continued a long and busy relationship with the RCMP Ottawa Vets Association and he volunteered to serve on many of its various committees.

Reg.#12492, S/S/M Ray McFarland passed away in 2013. He was 100 years young in spirit. He is missed by all his friends.
