RCMP Graves Manitoba

Although historical documents released by the RCMP show that some deceased members of the Force were buried in every corner of the Province of Manitoba, the vast number of RCMP graves are found in the southern part of the Province and especially in and around the Winnipeg area.

In the vast majority of cases, the graves of RCMP members found in the larger municipal cemeteries around Winnipeg are well cared for and they are in very good condition.

St. John's is the oldest Anglican Parish west of the Great Lakes. The Cemetery predates the Parish and was established by the Selkirk settlers in 1812.

Manitoba carries the sad distinction of being the burial place of the famous NWMP Sir Sam Steele, as well as the burial place of the youthful Constable Della Sonya Beyak, the first RCMP woman to be killed on duty. Constable Beyak died as a result of a motor vehicle accident, near Assiniboia, SK., while working on voluntary overtime duty.
