In April and May 2015, I had the opportunity to explore Europe which included the WWI and WWII battlefields of France, Belgium and The Netherlands.

And, while visiting The Netherlands, I had the honour to discover and visit the grave of Canadian Army Lance Sergeant Charles Henry Oswald Lloyd who was killed in action during WWII.

While visiting the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, I also had the pleasure to meet some new friends; school children and Staff Sergeant Dan Mayer from Ottawa, ON who was representing the RCMP in Europe.

And, an unexpected Canadian visitor to the Holten Cemetery was The Right Honourable, The Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Stephen Harper.

The short story which follows is about the death of Lance Sergeant Lloyd. It is accompanied by some photographs which were taken at Sergeant Lloyd's grave which was found in the Holten Canadian War Cemetery.

Army Service # L5370, Lance Sergeant Charles Henry Oswald Lloyd was killed in action on the Western Front on April 6, 1945.

He was buried in the Holten Candian War Cemetery in the Netherlands.

"The Netherlands fell to the Germans in May 1940 and was not re-entered by Allied forces until September 1944.

After the end of hostilities their remains were brought together into this cemetery.

Holten Canadian War Cemetery contains 1,393 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War."
